Cards Against Narrativity (a.k.a. Writers Against Humanity: Narrativity Edition) made its version 1.0 premier at Narrativity this year, and it was a lot of fun! Many bad jokes were enjoyed, and at least one new Narrativitist revealed depths of evil beneath their innocent facade. In other words, it was a proper game of Cards Against Narrativity.

card backs, to make it all fancy-looking, and to make it easier to distinguish question cards from answer cards. Black logo for questions, white logo for answers.
How to Play:
Each player is dealt seven “answer” cards (if there are a lot of players) or ten “answer” cards (if you haven’t roped many suckers in yet).
One player* draws a “question” card and reads it aloud. The other players each select an “answer” card from their hands and turn it in, face down. The questioner shuffles the answers and reads each one aloud along with the question card (as dramatically as possible), then picks the one they like best — which may be the best fit, the funniest, or just the one that best plays to the judge. Whoever submitted the winning answer fesses up and gets one point. Players draw another answer card to return their hands to seven/ten. Then the next player reads a “question”, etc. The first player to get ten points wins, unless you’re too tired/drunk to count that high, in which case keep playing as long as it’s fun.
*You can select the starting player by any method agreeable to the group; in the absence of consensus, whoever received the most recent story/novel/query rejection goes first.
We think of this game as a living document, so feel free to suggest more cards below! The original Cards Against Humanity game is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. We’re certainly not looking to make our version clean — you’ve met us, right? — but we are looking for questions and answers that are writing-themed or specific to Narrativity. Have fun!
ObDisclaimer: Writers Against Humanity: Narrativity Edition is based, obviously, on Cards Against Humanity, which you can find out more about at https://www.cardsagainsthumanity.com/ if you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade or two.
Yes, some of our cards are from, or clearly derived from, the original game. Sometimes something is so right (or wrong) it just can’t be improved on. Others are in-jokes or references from specific years of Narrativity. And some are just things we think are funny.
